Graduation Requirements



The following Levittown Diplomas meet and exceed New York State graduation requirements. To be eligible for high school graduation in 2010 and thereafter, a student will have completed a secondary program with a minimum of 27 units of credit, distributed as follows:

*The 4th year of Mathematics may be substituted with a technology, business or science class with the approval of the Principal and/or Assistant Superintendent for Instruction. This class must have a Mathematics component.

To meet the graduation requirements, students must:
Successfully complete an Interdisciplinary Research paper and pass Physical Education each year.

New York State Regents Diploma
To qualify for a Regents diploma, a student must score a 65 or above on Regents examinations in English, Mathematics A, Science (1), Global History and U.S. History.

New York State Regents Diploma with Honors
To qualify for a NYS Regents Diploma with Honors, a student must fulfill all of the requirements for a Regents Diploma and must have an average score of 90% or higher on Regents examinations in English, Mathematics, Science (1), Global History and US History.

Regents Diploma with an Advanced Designation
To qualify for a Regents Diploma with an Advanced Designation, a student must fulfill all of the requirements of a New York State Regents diploma AND score a 65 or above on Regents examinations in a second Math course, a second Science course and a Second Language. Students who pass 5 units of approved credit in Art, Music, or Career & Technical Education can be exempted from the Second Language Regents requirement

Regents Diploma with an Advanced Designation with honors
To qualify for a Regents diploma with Advanced Designation with honors, a student needs to have an average score of 90 or higher on all Regents examinations required for that advanced diploma (no rounding up is permitted). These Regents examinations are: Comprehensive English, two (or three) mathematics, two sciences (one physical science/the other life science), U.S. History & Government, Global History & Geography and languages other than English.

Local Diploma or Certificates
To qualify for a local diploma, students must score a minimum of 65 or above on three of the five Regents examinations and a minimum of 55 on the remaining examinations in English, Mathematics A, Science (1), Global History and U. S. History. Alternatively, the student may complete the requirements to receive either the Local diploma or the Local certificate, as specified in the Individual Education Plan (IEP), as approved by the District Committee on Special Education. The Board of Regents regulations permit the awarding of this certificate to students who have been designated as having a disability, and have successfully achieved the standards contained in the student's IEP as developed by the District C. S. E. and approved by the High School Principal.

The decision of the Superintendent shall be final and binding in all matters pertaining to pupil graduation and the meeting of requirements pertaining thereto.
