Social Studies



The Social Studies Department is staffed with highly qualified teachers, whose mission is to help students better understand the world around them and the country in which they live. The teachers are given the opportunities to help students achieve success, in addition to passing the New York State Regents Exams.

In the elementary and middle schools, teachers and students participate in various activities to better understand the subject of social studies. Not only are students learning in the classroom, they are also given the opportunity to go on various field trips.

Within the two high schools, each department offers 9th and 10th grade Global Studies, 11th grade American History, AP American History, AP Government and Politics, AP European History, 12th grade Government and Economics, Sociology, and Psychology.

Within the classrooms, students are given the opportunity to experience a variety of opportunities to witness history. Students are given the opportunity to view award-winning films and documentaries in the social studies genre. In addition, students are given the opportunity to use various technological resources to become more informed citizens. From Microsoft Publisher to using the Internet, students complete various projects based on the teacher's request.
