A Message From the Principal

Teachers at Summit Lane have been very busy preparing for the many new initiatives currently promoted throughout New York State. Common Core Curriculum represents an increase in the depth and complexity of curriculum to be presented to our students in an effort to keep them competitive on a global level. This approach to reshaping the body of instructional material K-12 has, as its major goal, ultimate preparation for either college level or work and career level achievement. The many challenges within the global economy have led the governors of many states to lead the way in this effort. The authors of the common core curriculum include stakeholders from all walks of organizations, academia, parents, institutions, ect.

Another major initiative seeks to revise the teacher evaluation procedure within a clearly prescribed format that includes student growth as measured by State and local tests along with an evaluation model chosen by each school district in concert with its local unions.

Details on both initiatives will be shared at our School Development Committee meetings as well as P.T.A. and Faculty meetings.

In closing, I once again urge parents to become active partners in helping to assure "Success For Every Student."

Dr. Sally Evans
