The Summit Lane Student Council consists of students from Grades 3-5. Student Council consists of an executive board, as well as at least one class representative from each class in these grades. The current advisors are Mrs. Cammarata, Ms. Stearns and Ms. VanVleet.
Student Council has many goals and purposes, in which the students are encouraged to interact with the community. Students meet monthly in order to: discuss and promote fundraising and donations for different organizations, encourage school spirit and participation, and to relay information. The Student Council works closely with several other committees and programs including Get-A-Voice, LEADD, and the PTA.
Each year, the Student Council is involved with at least three fundraisers. Last year, Summit Lane was continually involved in helping the Pennies for Puppies Project reach the district goal of $6500. This achievement allowed for the district to have the honor of naming two puppies for the Guide Dog Foundation.
This year, Student Council continues to be “bucket fillers” as they have helped: write letters to soldiers, collect and send items to troops overseas, and donate toys to the John Theissen toy drive for the holidays. The overwhelming response has been incredible! We look forward to continuing working together in 2012.
