Wisdom Lane Clubs and Activities

G.O.
The G.O. is comprised of 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students who hold positions as Executive Board Officers, Class Officers, and Representatives. The G.O. is the official governing organization at Wisdom Lane. The class officers from each grade level represent the student body. These representatives make decisions that impact the school and learning environment. It is a place for students to voice their grievances and plan events and activities for the school. The executive officers of G.O. (a combination of 7 th and 8 th grade officers) regularly meet with school administration to discuss issues concerning the students of Wisdom Lane.

Yearbook Committee
The yearbook committee is open to 8 th grade students. Students meet several times each month to design the current year's book. The students create the cover of the book, page layouts, as well as all page designs. They are also responsible for taking photographs at the various school functions as well as selecting all the photographs used throughout the book.

Newspaper Club
The newspaper club is open to all 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. It encourages student creativity and camaraderie. The club publishes two or more issues of the school newspaper. Students report extra-curricular and academic news, including sports, the arts, the GO, SADD, and general school news. The club showcases student talent in the form of writing, photography, art work, puzzles, and games. Students report on the full spectrum of their experience at Wisdom Lane.

6 th Grade Representatives
The 6 th grade representatives participate in a variety of activities dealing with Wisdom Lane. Students attend the Homecoming Parade, help decorate for school dances, participate in Spirit Week, as well as immerse themselves in the day to day running of the school. Students sell tickets to dances, fundraise for various activities, plan and execute the overnight trip to Philadelphia, and help orchestrate any other 6 th grade event.

7 th Grade Representatives
The 7 th grade representatives participate in a variety of activities dealing with Wisdom Lane. The students help organize events, dances, trips, and fundraisers for the entire 7 th grade class. These students are the liaisons between the entire 7 th grade class and the administrators.

School Store/Business Club
The business club at Wisdom Lane is open to 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. These students help run the school store. The store sells a variety of school supplies, school spirit merchandise, as well as apparel items to the entire student body. The students gain the experience of working together as a team. They also gain experience dealing with customers from behind the counter, dealing with money, helping stock inventory, and the responsibility that goes along with it. The school store is open every Tuesday and Thursday during students' lunch periods.

Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society is an organization open to 7 th and 8 th grade students. This organization promotes appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and citizenship. NJHS is involved in many humanitarian activities throughout the school year. Students collect food for Wisdom Lane families. They sponsor the annual "Family Game Night" to raise money for local charities. Students lend a helping hand at the annual Senior Citizen's Prom, and they provide tutoring for 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students experiencing academic difficulties. The NJHS students also help administration at Back to School Night, parent orientations, and award ceremonies.

Earth and Space Club
This club is open to 8 th grade students. Members learn how to find constellations and also learn a little of the history behind the constellations' names. Students learn how to look for the planets in the night sky, as well as track the phases of the Moon. Members will also get the opportunity to learn how to properly use the club's solar telescope. Club members must contribute to the annual club project and regularly attend meetings in order to be eligible to attend "Space Camp", which is an evening of star gazing.

6 th Grade Spirit Teams
The Spirit Teams is a program for all sixth grade students. It allows the students to be rewarded for their positive attitude, good behavior, self-improvement, and the ability to excel in both academic and team competitions. Students earn vouchers throughout each month for positive class, school, and cluster participation, homework, effort, and marked improvement. The top earning students will receive an award and accumulate points for their Spirit Team. Competitions are held throughout the year to promote school spirit, cooperation, and unity. Team captains work together to make their team the best it can be. They are responsible for tallying up the vouchers, distributing the rewards, and keeping records of team points. Captains are elected by their clusters and should possess leadership qualities. They must be responsible, organized, creative, dedicated, and very school spirited.

Chamber Orchestra
The Chamber Orchestra is open to selected 6 th, 7 th, or 8 th grade student that are in band or orchestra. This club rehearses the music to be performed at the Winter and Spring Concerts.

IDC Service Club
This club is for both IDC students and any 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students that can serve as helpers. The club is for the IDC students to become more involved in the school and community. They participate in various service projects and also attend school functions. The IDC students and helpers work closely to immerse themselves in the Wisdom Lane community.

Mathletes
Mathletes is open to 7 th and 8 th grade students. The purpose of Mathletes is to provide students with an opportunity to apply mathematics skills in a competitive atmosphere. Students meet on a regular basis in order to develop their skills and demonstrate different strategies for solving problems.

Art Club
Art Club is open to all 6 th 7 th and 8 th grade students. They will work on individual projects as well as group projects. Students will utilize their imaginations and problem solving skills to create their art.

Builders Club
The Builders Club is open to all 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. These students carry out service projects for both the school and surrounding community.

Best Buddies
Best Buddies is open to 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. It is an international organization whose mission is to enhance the lives of people with disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships. A key component to our club is socialization. Each "buddy" is matched with a "Peer buddy", someone who shares similar interests.

Intramurals
Intramurals is open to 6 th grade students. It is an after school program where the students participate in athletic events such as soccer, football, wiffleball, etc… Intramurals occurs outside and runs in both the fall and the spring as long as the weather is good.

8 th Grade Class Representatives
The purpose of the 8 th Grade class officers and class representatives is to act as the decision making body for the 8 th grade. It is a place for students to voice their grievances and plan events and activities for the school. We are responsible for school dances, planning our graduation dance and the 8 th Grade trip to Washington D.C. Each year we also like to get involved in the community with various community service projects.

World Language Honor Society
This Honor Society is open to 8 th grade students. The World Language Honor Society is dedicated to recognizing outstanding students in their second language studies. Students will be selected for membership after the second quarter in 8 th grade.

SADD
This club is open to all 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. SADD is a student organization that is dedicated to preventing underage drinking and drug use by focusing on the potentially dangerous consequences of behaviors such as not wearing a seatbelt, smoking, steroid use, violence and suicide. The mission of SADD is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with these issues. Members of SADD will participate in activities that support these values, such as Red Ribbon Week, Wipe Out Smoking Month, and Toys for Children. Such activities provide students with fun experiences as well as education about living a healthy lifestyle. SADD also serves to improve students' self esteem and leadership abilities through focused activities and community involvement.
